Help with a pocket watch hallmark

Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help me identify this pocket watch hallmark. It’s a family item, I’m not concerned with its worth particularly just looking for a little more information about its time period. From what I can understand it is Birmingham silver but I’m struggling to match the letter D to the hallmark guides online. And also can’t find any more information about RS.

Kind regards,

Sacha

Hello Sacha

It could be Rotherham and Son? Coventry watchmakers. I can see what you mean about the D, it looks like the 1852 version, but the passant looks more like 1827.

Not sure if you’ll find out anything more through these links? I’m sure someone else will have a better idea. Good luck, it’s a lovely piece.

Thank you everyone so much - that was so fast! Out of curiosity does anyone know why it wouldn’t have the crown stamp? The online guides suggest 1852 comes with a crown stamp too but unsure if that’s just for some pieces (complete novice)

I meant queens head stamp rather than crown*

Apologies. Is there any reason why this would not be present?

Thanks again :slightly_smiling_face:
