Help with a (very old?) teaspoon mark please!

New here  If anyone can help with this spoon’s hallmark I’d be very grateful!

I can see - I think - the lion passant, letter G, but after that I’m stumped! Maybe 625 at the end?

I’ve tried editing the photo to make the mark easier to read, and included a photo of the spoon itself, it’s only 9cm long. Comes from a collection of silver that I’ve inherited from my late parents.

Looks like the hallmark for London, 1802. The following mark is too rubbed to make out, but it would be the maker’s mark, and be initials of some sort.

London date letter G

Lion passant, G, duty mark, maker’s mark sideways; my best guess is PB over AB over WB for Peter, Anne & William Bateman. G is the London date letter for 1802/03. Crowned leopard’s head for London missing as is usual for small items at this period.

I would agree about the maker’s mark. I hadn’t looked at it sideways. That’s a lot of initials to squeeze into a tiny punch!

Wow - hadn’t expected it to be that old. Now I need to decide what to do with it - I’ll probably try to sell. Many thanks all

Regardless of age or maker, little condiment spoons like this rarely sell for more than $20. Take a look at the completed/sold listings on eBay.

Thanks Jeff - yes I wasn’t expecting to get a fortune for it! :slightly_smiling_face:I have various bits and pieces to sell - some UK and some Norwegian, so I will see what I can get.
