Any idea on age and what the symbol is in the shield?
The symbol, I believe, is a lamp - an old style oil lamp, which is one of James Deakin’s trademark symbols
I can only give a vague date of late 19th century, as, to my knowledge, there is no information about when these trademarks were used.
