Help with Markings - Dinnerware

Hello, I recently picked up a silver sauce tureen and am trying, and failing, to identify the likely age/maker. The only marks on the bottom are a stamped “R” and the numbers 3714 etched in. I don’t know if it is just silverplate or not yet, but it is hefty for a small item. I have searched British and American Hallmarks and have gotten nowhere. My antique apps suggest it’s Georgian, Sheffield, and early 1800s, but I just can’t tell. I am still a bit new to this. Thanks!

There’s not enough information to determine the specific maker. Look carefully at the inside of the lid and the legs of the vessel – there may be markings there.

Numbering: The number “3714” is visible at the top, which may be the model number, serial number, or production batch.

Signature: Below is a prominent letter “R,” which may be the initials of the goldsmith, manufacturer, or a material quality mark (e.g., plating).

Material: The surface shows signs of patina and wear, suggesting the item is made of a metal such as brass, copper, or silver plated.
