Hi, I have this piece that I’m a little confused about. I believe it’s Birmingham 1924, the maker’s mark suggests Henry James Cooper, but the marks I find online suggest that their mark should be “HJC & Co Ltd” Can anyone shed some light?
I can confirm Birmingham 1924. Your HJC is one of the marks registered by H J Cooper & Co Ltd. You can see most of them on my web site at Birmingham Makers Marks - HI-HQ. The company also had marks at Chester and London Assay Offices.

Thanks Phil. The item is a cigar box, 16 cms x 13 cms x 6 cms tall, 700 grams. Have you seen much of a market for them?
I can’t help you there but you can check out Ebay’s “Sold” listings. There seems to be a steady procession of cigar/cigarette boxes coming up for sale but I am not sufficiently interested to follow them.
