Whole item photo, please. Is this a watch case?
London, 1791.
It’s only a guess - Thomas Wallis I. I am confused… ![]()
Do you have any idea how I can check that?
The methods are simple - internet search, observation, associating facts and images…
It’s London 1831. Date letters for 1791 and 1831 are both lower case q but this is identifiable as 1831 through the duty mark. As it’s 1831 TW is Thomas Whitehead.

The duty mark is that of George IV. Although he had been dead for a year in 1831 the assay office continued to use his image on the duty mark as it took an Act of Parliament to change it. In 1791 the duty mark was that of George III.

Thanks, do you have any ideas how I can sell it? I’m in Germany.
