Can’t quite read the stamp but I think it says Simpson….something…..1776. Also has a name engraved on the side. Looks like Gains C. Bolin Jr…..but maybe it’s Gaius?
Just a beautiful cup I found on Long Island & am curious. I don’t know enough to categorize this….American Silver?
It’s made by Simpson Hall Miler & Co. out of Wallingford CT. It’s electorplated, the quadruple plate meaning that is is four times thicker than the typical standard of .003”. The 1776 is probably a pattern number or inventory number. But yeah it’s nice. Probably late 19th c. Polish it up and pour yourself a cold one from Cliffside Brewing also in Wallingford
Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. produced Victorian quadruple silver-plate child’s mugs often featuring basket weave, ornate floral, or repousse bird/aesthetic designs, typically from the 1870–1895 period. Yours appear to be hazel nuts and leaves and of that period. The company had outlets in all major cities including Montreal where they competed for many years with the likes of Henry Birks.
