Can anyone identify this mark or even age of set? It was completely black, I cleaned it carefully with quality silver polish… its not perfect, but pretty…
That’s the mark of Webster Company, North Attleboro, MA. They were in business from 1869-1950, when they were acquired by Reed & Barton. Tough to date pieces like this, but the relatively unadorned style suggests 1920’s or 1930’s
Thank you so much! It’ a family thing (but not my side of family), so trying to figure out who owned it! I am impressed by your site! Info is much appreciated!
Knowing who owned it would certainly help you pin down an approximate date.
It’s easier in my family. Until my parents’ generation, absolutely no one could afford sterling. Not even much silverplate kicking around.
My side of family were farmers, they would never have had such things either… : )
