I have come across a silver box with Cherub decoration weighing 147g and stamped 925. I believe it has the London import mark for 1904-05, the sun with facial features. Does this mark make it at all collectible or valuable? It also has the initials JGP but I cannot find who this manufacturer is, any ideas please?
Many thanks.
It certainly sounds like it could be a London import mark. If so, JGP would be a John George Piddington, a known importer of silver. A picture would be useful for confirmation.
Yes, definitely London 1904/05 import mark, Sponsor/importer J G Piddington. This import mark is fairly rare as it was only used for a few years but I don’t think it would make much difference to the value.
That is great, thanks very much. Any idea of value? Although I don’t think we shall sell it.
Scap value is about £50. I can’t find anything especially comparable on eBay but I would expect £50-£100.
