Hello, I am new here. I am learning a bit about Armand Frenais, a French silversmith.
I am considering buying a boxed set: cup/goblet/spoon fork, and another smaller spoon. His mark is on items (AF with anchor in between, in a horizontal diamond) along with the Minerva, French hallmark used to denote quality of silver. (.800 or .950)
But there is also a stamp in a Vertical diamond with sun above “HS” and star below.
“Armand Frenais was a renowned French silversmith and electroplater. The firm was active in Paris at 65 Boulevard Richard Lenoir between 1877 and 1927”
I am surprised that I find few auction results for this maker.
Is it because his pieces are so rare? (and I should buy this set?)
Or, maybe he’s just not that collectible?
Item sold info online: Antique French 950 silver ‘goblet’ / beaker with applied leaf and poppy decoration, by Armand Frenais Paris Marked Minerva and makers mark.
I would be so grateful for any information. Thanks
