Just wondering if anyone had any info on James Allison registered makers mark in Edinburgh in 1982-1999 as I have recently bought a Gordon Highlanders knife hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1989 makers mark is J.A am I right in thinking this is the son of Robert Allison any information would be appreciated as I’m struggling to find much out online thanks tony

Robert Allison certainly had a son called James as from 1954 they were in business together as Robert Allison & Son. This company ceased trading in 1982 and it is probably not coincidental that James’s own mark was first registered in that year.
