Confused. There is no date/letter? and maker marks. Any help in it’s entirety would be appreciated. Thanks!
But in this case not a real London hallmark as the punches are the wrong shape. The marks are are not even good enough to be classed as “fake”. So possibly Chinese export or North American pseudo marking.
Found it! Henry Jackson of Toronto - potentially much more interesting than an English piece.
Hell yeah, Phil! ![]()
“Ontario produced little handmade silver before the transition to manufactured wares. The first local work may have been by the Loyalist Jordan Post, who settled in York [Toronto] in 1787. Early 19th-century flatware bears the marks of makers in Niagara, Kingston and Toronto. Known hollowware is scarce, although large presentation cups were made by William Stennett (1829) and Henry Jackson (1838).”
That’s amazing! Thanks so much! I appreciate the information. I still have the “wax/stamp/cherub” heart shaped thing which I think is extremely old. It’s been awhile but I’ll be taking it in to get XRF analyzed this week. Other than that I appreciate you doing this for me I would have never found that. Cheers!
