Makers mark on umbrella or walking stick handle

I have a silver and ebony handle that I have inherited, no idea if it is from a stick or umbrella but judging by its size I’d guess at a ladies item.

I think I have the marks for London, 1899 correct (I think!) but having problems with the makers mark.

Any help or suggestions very warmly welcome.

Thank you!

Well at least my eyesights not as bad as I thought :slightly_smiling_face:

Just wish I could decipher the makers mark.

The maker’s / sponsor’s mark is LC who was Lionel Corper trading as L Corper & Co, variously described as stick manufacturers and gold & silver mounters. This mark was registered in February 1898.

Thank you very much Phil, I clearly missed that on the maker list when I looked.

Ties in nicely with the rest of the marks as well, wonder what the stick looked like that it was mounted on, I’ll never know :man_shrugging:t2:

Much obliged to you

Interesting, it’s what I had in mind for the shaft of the stick as malacca was the main choice for canes of that era.

The canes I make are made from Irish blackthorn so not as dainty! I shall look for a nice hazel stem I think.

many thanks again
