Mappin Brothers

Need some help with this??? Picked them up at an estate sale and I am having a hard time figuring out if they are real Mappin Bros or a reproduction. Would like to know age as well and a pattern name.[img]

These are most likely to be real Mappin Bros given the “sun” mark, MB initials and the name in the purpose-made fitted box. Why would anybody go to the trouble of faking electroplate? (I hope you realised they are plated and not sterling.) Mappin Bros were at the Cheapside address from c1890 until about 1903 when they were amalgamated into Mappin & Webb. There is unlikely to be a pattern name - these spoons would have been sold for presentation purposes with no other matching items available.

Thank you for the information. I did know that they were plate and not sterling. Do you think they have any value?

They have some value as decorative objects, but not a lot. Here in the UK I would expect to get about £15-£25 for them. I don’t know what the market is like where you are.

Thank you, you have been very helpful.
