Markings help on 2 spoons

My wife was left alot of things from her late nan and believes these items maybe belonged to her great grandmother, is anyone able to help just know a little bit more of any dates and makers etc just out of interest really…

These are both electroplated. The first, rather obviously, was made by Mappin & Webb of Sheffield. The letter L in the shield is part of M&W’s private date coding system. Some work has been done on this but the system is not completely decoded. The L may date from the 1930s or 1950s.

The beaver trade mark and initials on the other spoon belong to John Sherwood & Sons of Birmingham. It probably dates to around the turn of the 19th/20th century.

Thank you so much for your knowledge, I will gladly pass this on, thanks

Also do you know if there is any significant value and if it would be worth insuring them at all?

No value at all in these I’m afraid.
