Totally out of my comfort zone with this one , bought a large tin of Medals and Coins from Carboot and am stumped as to this Medal or Trophy !!! Hallmarks !!! So would appreciate some help
Appears to be Swedish. Crowned head of King Eric for Stockholm. Three crowns is the national mark. S is silver (I believe the Swedish standard is .800). L8 is 1937 (which certainly matches the style).
Still looking around for S&Co, the maker…
ETA: Probably Sporrong & Co.
Oh, and “100 M RYGGSIM” means “hundred meter backstroke.” The numbers below that would be 14-AUG (8)-1937. It all fits!
ETA: On the face, “Nordic International.”
That’s Excellent Jeff , looking at the online hallmarks graph it all makes sense. Thank you for your work explaining the marks, very much appreciated. Alan
The key to the online hunt was recognizing that the design looked very Scandinavian. Norway? Nope, nothing close. Next up, Sweden? Bingo!
Thank you Jeff, do you think it would be possible to find out where such a Medal would have been presented !!!, long shot I know but would think a medal of a Silver composition would have been won in a very significant competition !!! . Cheers for the help
Almost certainly Stockholm - a Swedish medal for a Swedish competition. But I can’t find any information about the games. You’d probably have to do a pretty deep dive into the murky waters of the interwebs…
Murky waters , I get ya drift Jeff
