Need help identifying 1922 engraved trophy

This engraved trophy is from 1922 for a 10 mile race in Seattle hosted by a prominent Labor newspaper the Union Record. It has a dime size stamp on the bottom that looks like:
Taunton, Mass 1788, VER00.P00 but I could be wrong about the last part.

The visible parts of the mark inside the circle are “POO … VER CO”, so Poole Silver Co - and your trophy is electroplate, not silver.

This is good to know. I appreciate your answer. So this means this is thin silver is deposited on to a base metal which I think is already showing through at the base. Any tips on how to clean this or if it can be cleaned?

Exactly. The layer of pure silver is only microns thick. Once it’s worn away, there isn’t really any rescue possible - the cost of replating the trophy would exceed its value, by quite a bit. Give it a warm bath with some dishwashing liquid, then use some silver polish on it (without getting too aggressive), rinse, and dry. Not much more you can do.

BTW, the 1788 is not a date - that’s a manufacturer’s model number, lost in the mists of time.
