Came across this handled basket and can’t figure out the markings. The rope fillegre and handle are not sterling, however, I filed down the foot and basket itself and it’s all sterling (18k acid on item itself and stone).
Any help would be great. Thank you.
It looks more like a cave drawing, haha. I can see a GG or CG, besides a slight 8, the rest are just scratches. You have to be careful with the stone test, because the bath can test positive. To be sure with the stone, choose a corner that is not very visible and make 3 sequences of scratches, then you will be sure.
I saw G G, but now R R make sense.
I did the stone test, filed down first in case there was any plating, results were sterling silver. There are scratches and a scratched 26(?) maybe. Thank you again.
