Can someone please help me ID these Hallmarks. Both a plated. One I am sure is before 1896 as the crown was not allowed to be stamped on plated silver after that.

The first one is unidentifiable as it just says “A1” (plating quality) and “EPNS” (electroplated nickel silver). The second one is R Hodd & Son of London. You are right about the crown giving a latest possible date.
Strictly speaking these are trademarks, not hallmarks, as they are not silver - only silver assayed by the relevant goldsmith’s guild in their hall has a hallmark.
