No sponsors mark

Hi, I have a mustard spoon with a full hallmark for Dublin 1809, and yet there is no sponsors mark, three is no sign of rubbing in fact no sign there was ever one. Would it have been assayed with the sponsors mark?

It should have had a sponsor’s mark before being assayed but where human beings are involved mistakes can happen. Probably all the other pieces in the batch submitted for assay had the sponsor’s mark…

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. I knew the sponsor mark should have been on it when it went to the assay office, does that mean technically, it’s not silver as the mark was part of the legal requirement?

The assay marks guarantee it as sterling.

Thank you for your time.
