Plated, correct?

Would someone please confirm the hallmarks on this piece mean it’s silver plated as opposed to sterling?

Yes, it is electroplated. Normally with electroplate marks that’s just about all we can say. However Elkingtons used a private date coding system on their electroplate. Here we have the letter M which, in this style of cartouche, means that it was made in 1873.
