I purchased a silver rose, presumably sterling 925 silver. However, I cannot decipher the rest of the hallmarks. There are three silver stamps on the stem, and one mark on the petals that appears to be a circled letter O or C. Could anyone help identify the maker’s mark and dating? Many thanks.
I believe this is post-1968 Italian silver. The 925 indicates that it’s sterling silver, and the star followed by 29 PD is the maker’s mark, the PD indicating that it’s from Padua. Not sure who, exactly, the maker is, however. The final symbol is the maker’s trademark - can’t ID that, either.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Making this the rare exception to the bard’s assertion “A rose by any other name should smell as sweet” in “Romeo and Juliet” where our eponymous hero is trying to figure out if the fact of the two rival families, of which she is a member of one and he another, should factor into his amorous desires.
The answer is no, otherwise we wouldn’t have got this delicious play and I wouldn’t have been wondering if the addition of a silver bee might have made the construct of this post more interesting.

Love your take on the rose quote! It’s funny how this solid silver bloom subverts Shakespeare’s line—no scent, yet all the romance of a rose remains trapped in metal. The silver bee idea sounds wonderful, it would add such lovely liveliness to the piece. Thanks for your thoughtful comment on my silver rose collection piece!
Bee Happy!

“PD” represents the province of Padova. The number “23” belongs to a specific registered workshop.
