Question about english marks

I have a question regarding English silver hallmarks that are arranged in the shape of a cross rather than in a row. I recently saw a teapot with such hallmarks on the bottom, placed in a cross pattern. I can’t find any clear information about this on the internet — the only thing I came across is that this arrangement was sometimes used on watches.
Could you please tell me if this positioning of hallmarks is normal? Is it genuine, not a fake? And why were they marked this way?
Thank you very much.

Completely normal you will be pleased to hear. The similar watch case configuration would not have a duty mark as watch cases were non-dutiable.
