Rogers & Bros hanging butter dish

We have a rogers & bros triple plate hanging butter dish (not the correct name) with 1156 and 15 marks. Could you help us ID this piece? It was my great grandmother’s.

Maybe 1156 is a pattern number and 15 part #.

I believe from my research this is a butter dish. The butter came in a cylinder block and sat on the silver pierced plate allowing for condensation to drain. I’m not sure but perhaps ice to be put under it.
The lid was held up for service and closed later. A very elegant piece especially in sterling. There are others for sale that are silver plate (see photo)

The one you’ve got isn’t sterling, either. It says clearly, “TRIPLE PLATE.” They might not have made it in sterling at all. Would have cost a bundle.

Agree, thanks! Not Sterling.

I was surprised I couldn’t find this one online (for sale or in a historical catalog).

I’ll keep digging…I’m new to this.

Bradnabors look at the post above I found a comparable butter dish.
