John Henry Potter

John Henry Potter (1860-1933), 124 Rockingam St., 1884-1893. Rockingam Works, 65-71 Division St. 1893-1940. In the 1920s, Potter expanded into adjacent properties in Division Street (which became known as Koban and Western Works). The firm became J.H. Potter & Sons Ltd in 1925 with J.H. Potter and his sons Cyril Aubert (1888-12964) snd Percy Gerald (1890-1964) as directors. In 1935, J.H.Potter & Sons Ltd was part of a short-lived merger merger “Silver & Steelcrafts Ltd” that included Fenton Bros and James Deakin & Sons. The combine collapsed within three years.
Potter brothers continued their activity at Enterprise Works as Bunting, Langdon & Co Ltd (liquidated in 1953) and Rockingham Plate & Cutlery Company (struck off in 1961), while J.H. Potter mark was owned by their sister Gladys Evelyn Potter (1893-1950). The firm used the trade marks ARARA, FORGET ME NOT, IDIUM, IRIUM, ROCKINGHAM PLATE and SILVA.
Rockingham Plate Ltd was a company controlled probably by two Potter sons, Cyril and Percy.
