silver entree dish

I HAVE A SILVER ENTREE DISH WHICH WAS RECENTLY GIFTED TO ME.
IT HAS DIMENSIONS OF 23CM BY 32 CM,(5.84 BY 8.13 INCHES ) AND IS RELATIVELY ORNATE.
THE LID HAS A REMOVABLE HANDLE, AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A MANUFACTURERS STAMP.
ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HANDLE IS STAMPED THE NUMBER 4 IN A CENTRAL SPOT, AND ABOVE THAT IS A CAPITAL “B”.
\ADVICE ON THE ORIGIN, AGE AND VALUE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

From your description it is impossible to give you answers to your questions about origin, age and value as there are no clues to help us. What I can say is that your dish is unlikely to be silver. I say this because you do not describe any marks which would indicate any silver content whatsoever. On silver I would expect to see some sort of hallmarking or “sterling” or a number indicating fineness (925 or 800 for example).

I wonder if the 4 means that it’s part of a suite of entree dishes - and the others have been gifted to other family members?
