I’m looking for help identifying the maker’s mark for this silver. I think I’m right in saying it’s London 1922 but would like to narrow it down further to the silversmith if possible.
Grateful for any help.
I agree with the London 1922 attribution - that seems spot on.
The maker’s mark is a tougher nut to crack. It looks like a heavily rubbed W.R., for Walter Raymond. But he apparently wasn’t active much beyond the 1890’s, so that seems unlikely. More looking and guesswork needed.
Thank you for such a speedy reply and confirmation of the hallmark details. I’ll keep looking.
W.F. is Woolf Friedson who registered this mark in 1913 as a smallworker. By 1916 he is listed in trades directories as an umbrella stick maker. In 1923 his business is Woolf Friedson & Son, stick makers, in Goswell Road, London.
Phil
That’s really helpful Phil. Thank you. It’s the question over whether it’s an F, B, P or R that’s confusing but this chap sounds like he’s in the right place at the right time!
Whole item photo, please.
WB?
