Hello, I’m trying to identify several silver spoons from my mother’s stash of collectibles. This one in particular looked interesting. The lion passant is facing left which I believe means it’s silver. Would appreciate any help identifying this spoon.
Thank you!
This lion passant is a trade mark and has no significance in terms of silver content. Only on English silver is a lion passant a guarantee of sterling (925) silver but this is nothing like an English lion passant and, in addition, does not have the other essential components of a hallmark.
On close inspection the word to the right of the lion is “Nicrosil” which implies to me a silvery-looking alloy of nickel and chromium, so possibly not even electroplated.
