Stamps on Silver Rimmed Bowl?

Hi, any help would be appreciated.

I have a porcelain bowl with a silver rim and I would like to know what the hallmarks are on the silver rim mean and is it plated or silver.

They read: J.G&S; with a shield shaped stamp with what looks like a man holding a bow; following that there are the numbers 550.

Thanks in anticipation.

JG&S plus an archer is the trade mark of John Grinsell & Sons of Birmingham. This is one of the marks which they put on plated items. 550 may be some sort of pattern number.

Many thanks for the prompt response and reply.
