Hello, newbie here. I’ve been given a teaset. After research on here, I think it is electroplated. However it has lots of hallmarks so was wondering the significance of these if it’s only electroplated. I appreciate any information on these hallmarks.
That last photo tells the tale. EP stands for electroplated. That’s followed by the maker’s initials, James Dixon & Sons, and their well-known trumpet mark.
The other markings are things like catalog numbers, and mean nothing significant.
There are no hallmarks on this piece. Hallmarks appear only on sterling (or gold).
ETA: The phrase “hard soldered” is also always a dead giveaway that you’re looking at plate, not sterling.
