Evening all, a little conundrum but I think I have it down. Unfortunately the maker marks are not exceptionally clear but I seem to have bedded it down to Levi & Salaman, although it seems to be LH? Seems the reg number was put into office late 1897 and this particular brush came out the first year of production.
Any comments on?
You are correct in identifying that the Design Registration mark was issued in 1897 and that the brush is hallmarked for the assay year 1898/99. So the dates are consistent. The sponsor’s mark could be LH as you suggest; it could also be LB (unidentified) which I have previously seen on a brush, among other items:

I am sure that other suggestions may be equally valid. We may never be able to tie it down. However, gentle cleaning round the mark may reveal a little more detail…
Thank you squire, nice to see you’re still around. Dealt with you about 13yrs ago on the collection, busy revisiting everything to brush up and ensure all the correct details are in the catalogue, found some interesting details that were missed back then but I’ll post on this thread for verification.
