Unusual Date Code and Makers Mark

Afternoon ladies and gents,

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas break!

New member here and was wondering if someone might be able to help me identify the hallmarks on a silver Albert chain I purchased.

Every link is stamped with a Lion Passant mark but I don’t see a town mark anywhere on the piece unless it has worn off over time.

The Marker’s Mark is [J S *] which I have tried to look up but haven’t had any look with, and the date code looks to me like an ‘M’ - possibly 1907? What do you think?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

This is a Birmingham mark with the date letter w for 1896. JS* is Joseph Sewill, a “watch manufacturer” of South Castle Street, Liverpool.

Thank you, Phil!

I don’t know how you figured that out but I reckon you’re spot on.

Much appreciated!
