Hello again after some time. I have been having the most wonderful time as a part time silver trader these days. The ancestral melt pile was reduced to a few “sat on” coffee cup holders, broken table bell and some odds and ends. Found further Bateman, 1744 muffineers, beautiful Betjemann ink stand w micro mosaic etc in the process of sorting out my attitude/ collection. Have now taken to a model where I try to procure what I can at rates I know melters won’t offer, but is still affordable. Rehome, retain, resell etc. Fun. “One more saved form the melt” etc. Much to thank this forum for frankly.
I am here groveling for help again. I have a pair of lorgnettes with an alligator slip case that fell out of a trunk somewhere. I am not capable of dlscerning marks I am looking at. Have done a fair bit of research. These appear to be gold plated/ rolled over silver by some of the rubbing. The anchor is unique TO ME as it is incuse and of a totally different style to what I’m familiar with. There is a lozenge which appears to have a rubbed P or F (or B!) in it. I’m also almost sure I see deliberate marks on the inner hinges but will go and put it under a loupe on Monday, phone can’t get it right. Anyway- certainly not gold marks as they aren’t solid gold. What interests me most is the anchor and lozenge. Is there anyone here who has come across this before? It’s probably something very obvious to the right eye. My assumption is that it’s silver relevant (should it be gold over silver) which is why I’m here. My fear is that even in this case I may have come to the wrong forum (copper forum that away…). Baffled.
Alongside a busted up 1800s cartel music box I can’t identify - these glasses are driving me totally mad. Best wishes. apologies and thanks in advance!
