Walker & Hall dessert knife Hallmarks Question

Hi, I have a set of 6 Walker & Hall dessert knife and forks which I am wanting to date.

From looking at the knife hallmarks I can see are the ‘W & H’ then a ‘S’ then the flagpole and pennant, however from I have sound on the web the the W&H letters should be in within the pennant. but they are not ( the pennant is very small)

I believe the ‘S’ denotes that the knives are Serling Silver, however on the Forks there are no hallmarks to which can see, however I am sure they are matched to the knives (same mother of Pearl hands & shape etc.) I would very much appreciate your experience in dating this set. Thank you.

Being it’s from Sheffield, unless there’s a lion passant on it somewhere, then it’s silver plate. The S is probably a date letter as according to this, Walker and Hall actually bothered with a date system for their electroplate.

The S is almost certainly just “Sheffield” and not a W&H date code.

I questioned if they were electroplate silver plate, however as the Hallmarks are quite warn away and no visible signs of the base metal coming through I thought they must be sterling silver. Thank you.

Hard to say without looking at them in hand, but the knife blades might be stainless steel and only the ferrules and forks being plated.

Here’s three cases sets which sold in 2017 for $250 US. I presume you have the box or can lay your hands on one.

Sometimes the silver band around the handles is sterling. The blade on non sterling is nearly always plate on fruit knife sets.

Here’s a sterling set by Walker & Hall for the1930’s which is probably your sort of date too
